Senior Center
The Fairfield Bay Senior Center WELCOMES you to join us, not only for lunch, but for many activities, friendly conversation, a cup of coffee, computer use and much more. Seniors and visitors (all ages) are welcome to attend lunch Tuesday through Friday. A menu schedule is available and changes each month. We have a clean, well kept Center and we invite everyone to come and visit us. We are located right next door to the City Office Building and the Health Club. Besides lunch, we offer lots of activites, please check that Calendar also. Our building is large enough to accommodate 200 people. It can be rented on an hourly basis or by the day or evening. You may contact Bettye Willis (501-884-7800) for availability.
The Senior Center has a ‘Dance Club’, that has a dance every other Friday night, starting at 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Of course there is no smoking or alcohol allowed. They have a country/western band and also serve some food. The public is invited to attend, a small donation is requested. Come join them, if you don’t dance it’s a good way to meet and talk to people. It’s a great place to learn to dance. The music is great and they have a ball.
Twice a week at 10 a.m. (Tuesdays and Thursdays) we offer ‘Range of Motion’ exercise classes. This is a low-key exercise group. Some of the exercises are done sitting in a chair. What a great way to keep yourself limbered up and able to do more things during the day. These classes are for men as well as women and only last about 45 minutes.
On Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. we offer ‘Line Dancing’. That’s always fun, our instructor keeps up with the latest dances, so it is never boring, although line dancing is repetition, so until you learn a dance they go over it lots of times. Fun-Fun-Fun, before you know it it’s 8 o-clock and its over.
Speaking of dancing!!! On Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. we offer ‘Clogging’. This is a slower class for beginners. They on Friday morning at 9:30 its time for the Cloggers!! Just a bit more advanced, but fun loving. There is a whole hour of loud music, laughing, breathing hard and visiting. Come be with us if you like to dance.
If you like a little more sedate form of exercise we offer Bridge and Pinochle. We have party-Bridge on Mondays at 1 p.m.; contact Bridge on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Fridays. The Pinochle group plays on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Cribbage group come on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Also Scrabble group at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Just to let you know —- there is a Genealogy Class that has been going on for some time. If you are interested in that, I’m sure you will be welcome. They meet of the 3rd Monday night at 6:30 each month.
Every other Thursday our ‘Wood Carvers’ meet to whittle up a storm. They really do a lot more than whittle. Some of the things they do are fabulous. They do eagles, bears, walking canes, you name it. They are serious wood carvers.
We have a model ‘Airplane Club’ that meets here on the fourth Saturday of the month. If that is an interest to you come of by on Saturday and see what it is all about.
At one time the local NCAFA&E (artists) met at our Center to paint. They have since moved on to another location. However, we still display their wonderful art work in our Senior Center. Come by and take a look.
Last, but not least, we offer FREE ‘Computer Classes’. At the moment our Beginners Classes are being offered, but we are in hopes of acquiring a teacher for Intermediate and Advanced. In the past we have also offered ‘Digital Camera’ classes, but we will wait to see what classes are requested.
Just in case you do a special craft of hobby, we’d like to hear from you. We have more space available for your group if you’d like to meet here at the Center. We will be happy to accommodate you in whatever your needs may be.
Please contact Bettye Willis at 501-884-7800 for further information on any of the above Activities.
